Judy Hunter Hooper, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida, at the age of 76. Born on December 27, 1948, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, Judy’s journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an enduring passion for cooking and family.
Growing up in Lincolnton, Judy embraced the vibrant culture and community around her. She later moved to Atlanta with her husband, where together they nurtured a loving home for their two daughters, Angela and Allison. Judy’s career spanned many years in the banking and mortgage industry, showcasing her strong work ethic and dedication. After stepping away from that realm, she pursued her passion for food by opening and running a catering business, allowing her to share her culinary creativity with others.
Judy had a knack for infusing life into every dish, adding her unique flair to cherished recipes, making her an artist in the kitchen. Her love for cooking was matched only by her fondness for 60’s and 70’s music, art, and dancing. Judy's sense of humor was legendary; she possessed an ability to elicit laughter that captivated those around her. Many cherished memories were created around the dinner table, where family members gathered to recount adventurous tales and revel in joyful moments.
In her later years, Judy continued to inspire those around her while working in customer service in Tallahassee. Her dedication to her family and friends was unwavering, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Judy is survived by her loving daughters, Angela Hooper and her partner Sandy of Tallahassee, FL, and Allison Hooper-Swigart and her husband Chuck of Denver, CO; her cherished grandchildren, Axel Swigart and Madison Swigart; and her dear sister, Karen “Kasey” Hunter of Marion, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Derel Hunter and Vera Inez Keener, and her husband, Vaughn R. Hooper. Judy's vibrant spirit touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
